
Welcome to the Department of Zoology
The Department of Zoology is a university department of Mohanlal Sukhadia University (erstwhile Udaipur University) at Udaipur. MLSU is a State University established by an Act in the year 1964.
The Department has made a mark at National level by the achievement of Padma Shree Award by Dr. G.C. Mishra, Shanti Swroop Bhatnagar Award to Prof. S. S. Guraya, Prof. Bhomitra Dev (Vice- Chancellor, Mangla Yatan University and University of Gorakhpur), Prof Madhu Sudan Sharma (Vice – Chancellor, Kota University), Best Scientist Award (Env. Science), Erasmus Mundus Fellowship For Faculty Improvement & Dr. V.P. Sharma Gold Medal to Prof. Arti Prasad. The department offers Post graduate degree in zoology with specialization in Entomology and Wild life biology. Major thrust areas of research in The Department are Vector control, public health entomology, vector and pest bionomics and surveillance, Wild life biology, Chironomid biology and Heavy metal toxicology.
The LABORATORY OF PUBLIC HEALTH ENTOMOLOGY is the largest laboratory of the department that has produced over 25 PhD Students, more than 100 diploma in public health students and more than 100 postgraduates entomology students in last 5 years. This laboratory is also running Diploma in public health entomology, Certificate course in vermibiotechnology and mushroom cultivation under Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development funded by RUSA 2.0.

Message from Head of the Department
Established in 1964, the surge and success of the department of Zoology of Mohanlal Sukhadia University in the crucial first two decades of its existence has been both momentous and monumental, charting a success story for itself and setting a decisive growth animus for this institution of higher education. With Gods grace and blessings of seniors The same legacy was carried forward from 2014 to 2021 in all possible ways in my tenure of Headship.
From the introduction of new programmes and curricular innovation to research infrastructure development and faculty capacity building, this university department has trained its focus in the right areas, and as a result, it has witnessed a huge rise in popularity across the nation drawing the best of minds from the far corners. The department represents over 10 Indian states apart from attracting foreign students. It is such an extraordinary success that we are celebrating in this document, by recording the progress of the Zoology fraternity in the past 6 years.
We, who are fortunate to serve this great institution at this momentous time, rededicate ourselves to work better for the promotion of quality higher education and research for all. Together, teachers and students and office staff have played active and interactive roles in co-developing and shaping the best learning and research environments that unleash their full potential.
Our success of is based on high-quality courses, good facilities, friendly ambience and dedicated academic staff. This lively, multicultural mix creates a dynamic learning environment and a great opportunity for increased cross-cultural understanding. The department fosters collaboration and a multidisciplinary approach with a global outlook which helps students develop the all-round vision to succeed anywhere in the world.
We feel proud of our achievements. But we fully realize that the tasks to be carried out are many. We have no time to rest on our past successes and we should strive harder to render better service to the society. I have no doubt that the department will continue to keep up the glorious tradition of guiding as well as accomplishing the higher education goals of the country. Hundreds of faculty members, officers, staff, and students deserve credit for what the department is today a premier department of the university.
I wish and hope that this department will continue to grow on sound and modern lines in the years to come with major breakthrough achieved in frontier areas.
