Workshop on Hands–Training on Solid Waste Management by Vermicomposting
The LABORATORY OF PUBLIC HEALTH ENTOMOLOGY of Department of Zoology, M.L.S.U., Udaipur, addressed the serious issue of Solid waste management and vector control, and is also contributed toward Clean and Green Campus concept by inculcating the habit of managing own waste, in young generations, students and Scholars. IMHCl laboratory of Department of zoology is pioneering in University in managing its own waste by an eco-friendly way, employing solid waste management by vermi-composting. All PG students were exposed to practical aspect of Vermi-composting by windrows method by taking them to Bujhra organic farm. Later they were involved in hands-on-composting training at departmental level by constructing a vermin-composting unit. The unit was inaugurated on 27th April 2017 by Prof. J.P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, M.L.S.U., Udaipur and Shri Chandra Singh Kothari, Mayor, Nagar Nigam, Udaipur jointly. The event also witnessed gracious presence of Dean, University College of Science, Prof. B.L. Ahuja and Registrar of Science College. The informative workshop was also attended by 100 PG students, 50 school students from Rayn International, Delhi public school and MMPS. The Ryan International school ,Udaipur has become the first Eco-green School of Udaipur, managing its own waste. Many tribal women were trained in vermin-technology using their waste products and getting convert into compost. All the guests were gifted vermi-compost packets made at Rayn International school as a memento to mark awareness toward vermin-composting. Vermicomposting is effective process for reduction of solid waste and eco-friendly process. It produce high quality fertilizers which are better compared to other commercial fertilizer in the market. Vermicomposting increases the crop yield and lessens dependence on chemical fertilizers thus mitigating climate change. Earthworm Species used in Vermicomposting
